What is callipogon relictus?

Callipogon relictus, also known as the Relict Longhorn Beetle or the Korean Horned Beetle, is a beetle species belonging to the family Cerambycidae. It is an endangered species that is native to South Korea and named as one of the Natural Monuments of Korea. The adult beetle is large and distinctive, growing up to 8 cm in length, with long antennae and horn-like projections on its head. It has a black body with red-brown elytra (wing covers). The larvae of the species feed on dead or decaying wood, primarily from oak trees. The population of Callipogon relictus has been in decline due to habitat loss, deforestation, and human activities. Conservation efforts are being made to protect this species, including captive breeding programs and habitat restoration projects.
